GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 System Eliminates Marine Vessel Soot
Nett Technologies Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario Canada has successfully finalized development of its newest product the GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320. After rapid prototyping and extensive field/sea-testing the GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 marine diesel particulate filter (DPF) system is a new emission control system designed to tackle marine industry emission problems.
The GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 is a diesel particulate filter (DPF) system designed to remove soot generated from the operation of a marine vessel’s onboard diesel engine. The VOLT 320 is a passive/active DPF system that performs automatic self-cleaning (regeneration) without relying on an engine’s exhaust temperature. Ideal for vessels with diesel engines that have an output between 50 kW to 450 kW, the GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 contains a series of internal electric heating elements that are used (when required) to increase exhaust temperature for regeneration.
The GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 has gone through rigorous testing crossing the Atlantic Ocean twice and accumulating more than 2700 hrs of trouble-free operation. Making routine trips to the Mediterranean and Caribbean, this custom engineered GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 system was installed on the 150’ vessel Charisma. In addition to creating a unique emission system, Nett’s engineering team also created a robustly featured computer controller that monitors and data-logs engine and DPF parameters.
“During the normal operation of its on-board 130 kW diesel generator, the Charisma would experience unsightly soot accumulation on the exterior of the vessel’s hull, seats and boat deck. The GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 is the perfect solution for the Charisma and its soot accumulation challenge,” mentions Maurice Kouprie, Charisma’s Captain.
Energy efficient, the GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 regenerates passively when engine exhaust achieves a temperature of 325°C. When an exhaust temperature of 325°C is not achievable, the VOLT 320 actively regenerates with the help of its heating elements. The system comes with a computerized controller and customizable alarms. The GreenTRAP™ VOLT 320 eliminates up to 95% of particulate matter, over 97% of hydrocarbons and over 95% of carbon monoxide and requires approximately 20 minutes to complete a full regeneration when in active mode.
